Chapel
The Hancock County Historical Society (HCHS) welcomes you to take a visit through the history of Hancock County, Indiana. We are a local, mostly volunteer group that is a not-for-profit 501©3 organization. Our mission is to collect preserve and interpret the history of Hancock County Indiana, which is located in the east central section of the state. The HCHS is located in the Chapel in the Park and the Old Log Jail on the corner of Apple and Main Streets in Greenfield, Indiana. There is a large collection of artifacts in both the Old Log Jail Museum and in the Chapel in the Park – with most of the displays located in the Chapel’s basement. There are several thousand items in the collection ranging from Native American projectile points, pioneer artifacts,

Group tours for schools, service organizations, church groups, and youth organizations (boy/girl scouts) may be made by request for week-day and evening appointments. Contact the HCHS office to get more information.
The Chapel in the Park is available for rental for weddings and other events. Please check out the Events page for more information. Please consider visiting the HCHS in person. We are well worth the trip!

Log Jail

The mission of the HCHS is to collect, preserve and interpret the history of Hancock County Indiana. However, in addition to collecting artifacts, the organization helps to educate the public on the history of Hancock County through programs, education pieces, books, lectures, and information services. We host several events throughout the year including entertainment activities, workshops and historical lectures. There are also special interest committees that meet periodically. The Old Log Jail Museum and the Chapel in the Park are open to visitors on Saturday and Sunday from 1-5 p.m. during the months of April through October. Admission is $2.00 for adults and $1.00 for children.
